How can physical therapy help after breast surgery?
Physical therapy plays a key role in your recovery after breast surgery, whether you’ve had a mastectomy, lumpectomy, reconstruction, or augmentation. During your sessions, Dr. Jasia will assess your posture, shoulder mobility, scar tissue, swelling, and core stability to create a personalized plan for your healing.
She will guide you through therapeutic exercises to improve your posture, strength, and range of motion—tailored to your needs. If you still have drains, modified exercises will be provided so you can begin rehabilitation right away while following movement restrictions and proper drain care.
You’ll also receive brief education on lymphedema and general wellness for prevention and awareness. As part of your home program, you’ll learn scar tissue management techniques to use once your surgical site has fully healed.
