What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a medical condition where tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus (the endometrium) grows outside of the uterus, often on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other pelvic organs. This tissue thickens, breaks down, and bleeds during the menstrual cycle, leading to pain, inflammation, and scarring or “adhesions” due to the lack of an outlet for the blood and tissue.

What are the symptoms?

Endometriosis can cause a range of symptoms, including extremely painful periods, chronic pelvic and low back pain, pain during intercourse, infertility, and gastrointestinal issues such as bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. Symptoms can vary widely, and some women with endometriosis may not experience any symptoms at all.

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women.

Endometriosis is a long-term condition that affects about 1 in 10 women of reproductive age. Unfortunately, it can’t be detected with imaging tests like ultrasounds or MRIs. The usual way to diagnose it is currently through laparoscopy, where a small camera is inserted into the abdomen to see the tissue directly. While there isn’t a cure for endometriosis yet, there are treatments available that can help manage your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

"If I had Jasia, or someone on par with her, earlier in my endo/IC journey I believe things would have been a lot different for me. Especially in terms of pain."

“I struggled with stage IV endometriosis and IC for over 15 years. If I had Dr. Jasia, or someone on par with her, earlier in my journey, I believe things would have been a lot different for me. Dr. Jasia lets you lead, and never does anything outside of your comfort or to cause increased pain. She is warm, welcoming, funny, and she makes something so personal and potentially uncomfortable easily bearable. Better than bearable even. Dr. Jasia has been an answer to many prayers, and I can't recommend her enough. Thank you, Dr. Jasia!”
